We love our Helper Dogs, who accompany us to work each day and provide invaluable assistance in the training and rehabilitation of other pups. Instinct Helper Dogs work together with our professional trainers to help socialize fearful and aggressive dogs, teach puppies how to socialize, encourage nervous dogs to explore, and demonstrate the how-to's of obedience exercises for our clients.

Mozeez (Mo), a 3 year old American Bulldog mix, is an invaluable assistant in dog-dog socialization sessions for aggressive, fearful, and anxious dogs. In addition, Mo competes in AKC Rally competitions, most recently competing in the 2015 AKC Rally National Championship where he finished as the top-ranked mixed breed and just one point out of a top ten spot in the Novice category.

Mo was surrended to NYC Animal Care & Control and adopted from Posh Pets Rescue/NOLA Furry Friends in May 2013 as an anxious boy who struggled with over-arousal issues. He's come a long way and has grown into his role as a steady, stable Helper Dog. His favorite off-duty activity is soliciting play from big brother Buster and little brothers Joey & Will.
Sammy was one of our original Instinct Helper Dogs. He died suddenly in March 2015. We still miss him everyday and are forever indebted to him for the knowledge, loyalty, love, inspiration and unbridled enthusiasm he brought us over the five incredible years we got to spend with him.

Sammy, a rat terrier mix, was adopted in December 2009 at 10 months old. He was extremely reactive toward other dogs, but became a true testament to what can be accomplished through patience, dedication, and good training: Sammy became relaxed and comfortable with other dogs on-leash, regularly acting as a distraction dog for fearful, aggressive and anxious dogs, and he often helped with off-leash socialization for puppies and small dogs. Sammy was our resident AKC Rally champ. He held an RAE2 title and competed in the 2013 and 2014 AKC National Rally Championships, where he finished as the highest ranked mixed breed in both trials. In addition to his AKC RAE2 Rally title he earned AKC Companion Dog and Canine Good Citizen titles.

Thank you Sammy, for your indominable spirit and your unconditional love. The lessons you taught us will benefit dogs and owners for years to come.
Buster, an 11 year old pit bull mix, is our most senior and experienced Helper Dog. He has logged hundreds of hours assisting in dog-dog socialization work, including: as a rock solid control dog during BAT sessions and on-leash greetings, as a skilled play partner during off-leash socialization with fearful and aggressive dogs; and as a tolerant, friendly "big dog friend" for young puppies.

Buster was adopted from NYC Animal Care & Control in June 2009 at age 5. He is a once-in-a-lifetime companion & working dog whose boundless joy for life inspires us every single day. Buster is retired from formal training, but holds AKC Companion Dog, Rally Novice, and Canine Good Citizen titles.
